Founder and president of the NGO ALLILONnet. High ranking official of the European Union (ret.). Ex-EU ambassador to the World Trade Organisation, to Argentina and others.
Welcome to my website.
It presents documents, videos, photos and other materials used or produced for possible publication, often before or after public events. They cover a huge variety of issues, in many areas of EEC/EU policy and they were mostly produced during my approximatively 20 years of service in non EU countries, in Delegations of the European Commission until 2010 and Delegations of the EU since the Lisbon Treaty.
My approximatively 10 years in Brussels Headquarters have been relatively less productive in public documents because public diplomacy is not part of the job description of the EU officials in the Headquarters. In the substance of issues, the content presents some official positions as my role for many years was to defend “the EU, its policies and its values” (extract of the mission statement of EU ambassadors abroad). More importantly, it contains a fair amount of personal thoughts and considerations through the years on many areas of interest to the EU and to its citizens, on concrete policies and measures but also on values , principles and ideals and on the place of our Union in the world.
As the debate on the future of the EU becomes more fundamental probably than it has ever been during the post WWII history of the European integration my hope is that something of the accumulated experience presented here will be of some interest to researchers, younger colleagues in EU Delegations or individual citizens of our Union. Our common endeavor needs for its success citizens who ask questions, explore their doubts, participate and insist to receive proper answers and want an informed debate, but do so with an open mind and a sense of our common destiny. Building a Europe that serves the real interests of its citizens is one of the most challenging and noble endeavors of human history, it cannot be simple and success cannot be guaranteed in advance. We owe it to ourselves and to the next generations at least to actively search and participate to this extraordinary quest that takes place during very challenging times.
I sincerely hope that this website will be a modest contribution in that sense. Your comments are very welcome, you will find the form at the end of the page.
